Mississauga Track and Field Fundraising dinner- February 9th 2008

Mississauga Track and Field Club (MTFC) is a running club which strives to promote track and field for high school aged athletes. They workout regularly from September till August preparing for competition at the local, provincial and national level.  MTFC is over 30 years old, bringing coaching experience and success in track to the City of Mississauga.

I was invited to attend as a Guest Speaker at their annual fundraising dinner. The determination and spirit behind Mississauga Track and all of their members is one I support whole-heartedly, and I was quite pleased by their annual dinner/dance fundraiser. Too often, people who are really making a difference in our communities are overlooked, and this program is ingenious in that it supports those key players around Mississauga who are making a difference through their sport.

*CHARITY EVENT* Livin Dreams- Fundraiser for Men's Olympic Fastball team- December 5th 2007

Being active in the entertainment industry means you have to know when to give back…

I organized a fundraiser in a chique Yorkville lounge for the Men's Olympic fastball team that was traveling to the PanAM games in Argentina. I performed alongside several talented local artists, and we auctioned off a plethora of goodies, raking in over $1500 for the team! Yahoo!

*CHARITY EVENT*
Breakfast with Santa Foundation Giving Children Gifts - December 1st 2007

I attended this event as a special guest, and got to eat breakfast and participate in the festivities with many children who may have not otherwise had presents to open on Christmas. From face painting, to a puppet show, this event pulled out all the stops to delight each boy and girl. And it warmed my heart to be a part of it, and really put me into the holiday mood.

CariRonto- Isabel Bader Theatre- December 9th 2007

A sketch comedy theatre production that brings such issues as sexuality, denial, pretense, needs, love, relationships, friendships, rejection, religion and life styles to the fore front. "It's like everyday situations or its something that someone tells you that is normally not expressed so openly, explicitly and more so blatantly." "CariRonto" is like the Matrix, it all around you, it's everywhere. It's raw, it's edgy, it's fierce, it's blatant, it has serious moments, but over all hilariously shocking. I had the pleasure of being one of two unscripted MC’s for the night- boy was it fun! We cracked jokes, handed out prizes, and really got to interact with the performers and the audience. All in all, it was quite a diverse experience, and I’d love to get involved again.

Beaches and Sandals Resorts- December 6th 2007

I attended their head office to personally meet the people responsible for my all expenses paid Carribean vacation! They were warm, friendly, and congratulated me whole-heartedly on my title as Miss Canada Plus. I couldn’t believe all the fabulous things included in the vacation package, and can’t wait to put it to use!

Women of Distinction radio interview on 3 Sisters Program of That Radio November 27th 2007

The inspiration behind the Three Sisters radio program is one I support whole-heartedly: promoting unity within the community at large.  I was quite pleased by their weekly segments highlighting local men and women of distinction. Too often, people who are really making a change in our community are overlooked, and their program is ingenious in that it champions those key players around the city who are making a difference. Glenora and I were welcomed as chosen “women of distinction” to be profiled by the show that night. We fielded questions from both On Air talent and callers, and championed the importance of size acceptance in the entertainment industry. While on the show, we discerned that word-of mouth is a powerful thing, and I will make sure to continue to promote That Radio and Three Sisters.

1st Annual Miss Caribbean Tourism Pageant - 17th November, 2007

The mission of this pageant is to make a difference in the lives of young women by providing them with the opportunities for furthering their professional and educational goals, while promoting Caribbean tourism and celebrating Caribbean culture.
I attended as a distinguished guest, and felt welcome from the moment I walked in the door. I was asked to pose for pictures for a few photographers who offered Media coverage of the night’s event, and was then shown to my seat.

I thoroughly enjoyed the detail they put into their pageant, from the diverse program and costuming, to the delectable food and music throughout. The sights, sounds and smells truly encapsulated the heart of the Caribbean. Additionally, I was pleased to hear music that corresponded to each contestant's cultural background when they walked the stage- it really added to the sensory detail. Faleesha Raquel- Miss Jamaica, was crowned the new Queen, and I must say that all the participants did a beautiful job-their hard work really paid off on Saturday night!

Even as I was getting into bed, I was still raving to my partner about the night's colourful performances.

Shawn Blu Gala 17th November 2007

After the untimely death of Shawn "Blu" Rose, (a youth worker and long-time resident of the Malvern community ) The Shawn Blu Rose Society was formed, comprising of close personal friends and family of the late Shawn Rose. They joined together respond to community issues and promote community awareness and activism, through developmental programs aimed at the youth in the Malvern community and the greater Toronto area.

I attended their annual fundraiser gala as both a performer and special guest. Every last detail was attended to, from the décor on the tables to the matching blue attire of the attendees. Former MCPP Queen Denise Azeez was the master of Ceremonies, and welcomed me to the stage with great fanfare.

Though sick with bronchitis, I managed to pull off a 3 song set to the delight of the crowd.

It was a pleasure to be a part of this gala, and I am touched to see so many keeping the memory of a loved one alive, and doing it with a cause at heart!

I have recommended this event to many friends in the Toronto Music Industry (some of who personally knew Shawn) and would happily perform again in the future-hopefully in better health!
